The Flying Dutchman's New Zealand Wicked Roadtrip!

Roadtrip New Zealand

Exploring New Zealand

Since early March this year I’ve been living in Auckland and have been working in the Wicked depot in Auckland. In that time I got to meet a lot of happy customers returning in one of many of our budget campervans. And in that time I have been dying to go out and explore this beautiful country myself (as most of you backpackers know by now you have to work and earn some money before you can continue travelling).

Cheap Campervan Hire For The Roadtrip Adventure

Luckily enough, hiring a Wicked camper isn’t that expensive and when a friend of mine came over to New Zealand I took 2 weeks off and travelled around the country to see what the fuss is all about.

I can tell you now that all the amazing sounding stories are true! In those 2 weeks we have been touring in our budget campervan we’ve seen the most beautiful things imaginable.

Campervan Adventure New Zealand

Let me give you a few highlights. We started with the Waitomo Caves where you can do some serious cool stuff: blackwater rafting. You get to abseil down 40 meters into the caves, do a flying fox and then jump into the water with a tube under your ass. There you step into a magical world of glittering glowworms… and freezing water.

The next highlight was Rotorua where you can see beautiful colored geysers and thermal activities. Because we only had two weeks we drove straight to Wellington and crossed over by ferry. That was a beautiful crossing I tell you and quite cheap as well, thanks to the discount we got with Blue Bridge for driving a Wicked NZ campervan.

From Picton we drove down the West coast. That was an amazing drive, despite the poor weather conditions – which I dare to say gave the trip more character. The coast looks so much more dramatic with the waves pounding the beaches, rocks and cliffs. It sure was a unique experience to climb those amazing glaciers at Frans Jozef. That is an absolute MUST DO!

From there we continued our journey towards party central; Queenstown. And when in Rome… So the first thing we did there was to eat the world famous Fergburger and we booked ourselves a bungy jump with the founding father of this sport, A.J. Hacket right after that. Ladies and gentlemen, a freefall of 134 meters is probably one off the most exciting things one can do in a lifetime.

Next stop was Milford sound which is to me one of the most beautiful places on the face of the earth. And thanks to the fact we had our own accommodation we camped out there for the night. Penguins, dolphins and seals it’s all there, set in a magnificent setting.

Guys if you need to make up with the missus, no matter how stupid you’ve been, she’ll forgive you straight away thinking she’s in Wonderland with you! After that you need to get your blood pumping again so we drove to Wanaka where we had booked a paragliding adventure…what an amazing experience.

From treble cone you get to see one of the best views you’ll ever witness. And then it’s action! Run, jump and relax. As you sail through the sky you have time to sit in your harness and do nothing. Enjoy the view and take some time to relive your trip a bit. And after about 15 minutes you get snapped out off it (if you please) and Richard will give you the option to go wild or to swiftly glide down. Yeah that’s not too hard to choose aye? WILD please!

And then it was time for us to head back for Christchurch and return our Wicked NZ campervan. It was one hell off a trip and finally I’m able to give our Auckland customers some tips and advice about where to go.
