Welcome to the Adventure Capital

There is no better place to start a road trip than Queenstown. Surrounded by the Remarkables mountain range and sitting on the edge of Lake Wakatipu, this is the heart of the South Island action. Pick up your campervan rental in Queenstown and prepare for sensory overload.

From here, you are within striking distance of Fiordland, the wild West Coast, and the rolling hills of Otago. Whether you want to bungee jump, ski, or just park up with a view that looks like a desktop wallpaper, our Queenstown road trip guides have you covered.

Epic Drives from Queenstown

The roads around here are windy, scenic, and absolutely wicked. Here is where you should point the wheels of your Queenstown campervan hire:

1. The Milford Sound Run

This is a non-negotiable bucket list item. Drive along the edge of Lake Wakatipu to Te Anau and then into the fiords. Milford Sound is majestic, wet, and teeming with waterfalls. The drive itself is just as good as the destination.

2. The Southern Scenic Route (To Dunedin)

Take the long way round via The Catlins. This route offers deserted beaches, waterfalls, and penguin spotting opportunities. It connects Queenstown to Dunedin through some of the most untouched parts of NZ.

3. Over the Crown Range to Wanaka

Test your van's engine on the Crown Range road (NZ's highest main road) and drop down into Wanaka. It's Queenstown's chilled-out little sister, perfect for hiking and lake days.
